Dionisio Rojas tells of great Moche warrior chiefs in this extraordinary decorative vase. The Moche lived in coastal Peru (200 B.C. ? A.D. 500) and the greatest of chiefs wore battle suits in the form of serpents to signify their higher hierarchical order. Symbolizing a man-serpent deity, this type of attire was meant to represent great courage and instill fear. Rojas' detailed vase is a tribute to Peru's past, and the colors he uses are identical to those used in the textile arts.
