Four Faces Ashanti Throne Ottoman

Nana Frimpong describes this piece as a family throne, the four faces carved on the pedestal symbolizing love and unity. Representing the designs of the Ashanti royalty of Ghana, the carving is hewn from local sese wood and polished to exalt the material's deep, rich tone. Traditional geometric etchings complete this solid vision of West African culture. -About the Artist: Nana Frimpong is the chief carver for the king of the Ashanti. 'I draw inspiration from traditional kente cloth designs, from my family background, and from our rich Ashanti tradition. Some of my work for the king includes objects with 'gye nyame' (symbol for the supremacy of God), stools, staffs and other royal and ceremonial objects. My dream has always been to invest in my children's education. I am happy to say that this is now possible.' -The Chief Carver Nana Frimpong Artisan Collection is brought to you by Novica in Association with National Geographic. This beautiful piece was handcrafted by Chief Carver Nana Frimpong in Ghana. An artisan story card will be included with your purchase. - Sese wood -Hand crafted Artisan quality -Size may vary slightly -Colors may vary slightly
