Good Taste for Any Space: Versatile Sideboards & Buffets

If you think “stuffy” when you hear the word “sideboard”,”server”, or “buffet” it’s time to break your dining furniture stereotypes. Once pigeonholed as a formal dining room component, servers, sideboards and buffets have expanded to serve a variety of purposes and environments. Often used in conjunction with a tall hutch or breakfront, a sideboard buffet is a low table that’s often equipped with drawers or cabinets. This versatile furniture is available in a wide array of styles: some pieces have ornate legs, others are flush with the floor, and some dining room buffets can be heightened with a hutch cabinet topper. Sideboards are still relied upon when entertaining, providing a convenient place to lay out a food buffet, to store extra place settings and table linens, or to showcase a striking arrangement of flowers and candles. But as the design rules have relaxed in recent years, sideboard buffets are making appearances in other rooms throughout the home. They add a perfect finishing touch to sparse hallways, cozy up behind couches in the family room, or double as vanity tables in the master suite. When choosing a furniture sideboard, look for one that reflects the character and design principles of the space you’re outfitting. At StylePath, you’ll find dozens of servers and buffets in an array of finishes and styles.

Mirrored Furniture Adds Opulence to Your Decor

Once objects of extravagant 17th century luxury, mirrored furniture could be found in the Venetian royal palaces and palatial homes of the uber rich and powerful. Fortunately, production costs fell along with prices, making this opulent style more attainable to those not of royal blood or wealth.

Once the style was well established and common place in many European and American homes, it never fell out of favor amongst designers and homeowners. It is truly a classic style across many cultures and financial status.

Modern and vintage mirrored furniture makes a dazzling addition to many style decors--but not all. A note of caution: mirrored pieces can be so striking that a few of the existing furnishings and design elements in the room must be equally as strong to balance the room out. The mirrored façade tends to be more formal than its wood counterparts. One exception to the rule is that mirrored pieces look lovely with a casual shabby chic decor.

If you have every wanted to own an opulent mirrored piece of your own, now is the time to do it. Styles are many and price points vary from extremely high to some that are an absolute steal.  Vintage reproduction styles come with engraved nature and floral scenes with lots of etching and beveling. Modern lines are produced in clean lines and low profile styles. Mirrored furnishings are available for most any room of the home including dining furniture pieces like buffets and sideboards.
