Table Lamps- How to choose a table lamp-

Whether you like modern table lamps, Tiffany style lamps, or antique table lamps, it’s not easy to choose from the thousands available. Based on the room you’re furnishing, there are different guidelines for the type of accent lamp you should choose:

When purchasing table lamps for a living room or family room, looks are of prime importance. The table lamp should double as a decorative accent, looking equally handsome whether it’s turned on or off. Avoid placing it in a spot where it could potentially block the view of the television or of other people seated in the room.

In the dining room, table lamps are often placed on a sideboard or buffet to provide a warm peripheral glow. They’re often used in conjunction with an overhead pendant light or tabletop candelabrum.

When choosing a table lamp for the bedroom, strive for pretty with a purpose. Bedside table lamps should provide enough illumination for nighttime reading, but should be small enough to allow room for an alarm clock, books, drinks, and other bedside essentials. If you have two night tables, purchase a matching set of bedside table lamps for a cohesive look.

In a child’s room, durability and playfulness should be your two main considerations. Look for a table lamp rugged enough to withstand wear, tear, and play, but designed to infuse a touch of whimsy into a playroom or nursery.

Bejeweled Bohemian Beauties Light Up the Dark

Luxurious Swarovski crystals make the Geometrix artistic table lamps sparkle with the intensity of a thousand jewels. Created by Schonbek Lighting of Bohemia circa 1870, these guys know how to light up a room with 130 years of traditional crystal chandelier making experience.

Classic and contemporary, these sparkling beauties will illuminate any modern or contemporary space beautifully. Buy a pair and place them on each side of a sleek leather sofa. Set one atop an entry table for a powerful impact. Use as a desk lamp in an ultra modern home or commercial office.

The crystal clear style is dazzling, however if you like a bit more color in your world, these gems come in over 30 shades from Alabaster to Waterlily. Swarovski is the gold standard when it comes to precision cut crystal quality and purity.

Adding one or more of these artistically brilliant crystal lights to your space will give it instant class.

Get Your Glow On

They call it a “desk” lamp, but this retro ball of fun could illuminate most any space in your home. If your place is contemporary, modern or transitional, here’s a few niches where we think decorative lamps would look absolutely fab:

  • Take two and let them highlight the top of your buffet, credenza, fireplace mantel or as bedside table lamps.
  • Put one next to your favorite reading chair—caution you may not be able to take your eyes off it.
  • Stick one on a table in your entry way to welcome visitors.
  • Set one on your desk. (OK, we gave in on this one.)

Holtkoetter Glow Desk LampThe Glow Lamp’s dual controls make it easy to enjoy several lighting levels. Not only does it have a light on top, the globe base down below glows too. It’s all about warm light, white lines and polished brass accents.  It also has an interesting back story: It was created by Franz Holtkoetter’s lighting company who is famous for their German “light machines.” Their motto: “Licht machen” or to make light.

This lamp has such a way about it; you can design a whole room around it. Talk about found objects! Here’s what we would do if we were you…pair it with the hot pink Seven Sofa from designer Michiel van der Kely, the Bertram Rectangle coffee table by Luxo Interiors, and this jazzy, black and white hand-knotted rug from Himalayan Collection.

Now you’re glowing!
