With a suitable surface treatment cypress wood offers superior durability holding paint well and resisting weather. All but indestructible cypress is a close grain wood that resists checking and warping. It's as long-lasting as it is weather-resistant. If you should choose to paint it you should use an exterior oil-based primer in white or grey followed by an exterior oil or latex paint of your choice. If you prefer to keep the wood natural you should apply a natural oil-based stain or preservative annually or as needed. Keep in mind that due to the density of this wood the drying process may take several days depending on the humidity and temperature. Small cracks called weather checking may appear in the wood. This is a natural process and will not affect the useful life of the product.
